I'm your host, Susan...

Hi, I’m Susan — and I’m the voice behind Manchester Murders.

I’ve lived in Manchester on and off over the past 32 years (ouch), long enough for the city to get under my skin. Like a lot of people, I’m a true crime podcast listener, and I found myself deep into a series that focused on murders in London. It struck me that while London’s crimes were being meticulously documented and retold, Manchester’s stories — just as complex, just as tragic — didn’t seem to have a dedicated podcast of their own.

So I decided to make one.

Manchester Murders grew out of curiosity rather than credentials. I’m not a journalist or a historian by training. By day, I work as an acoustic consultant; by night, I research, write, and produce this podcast. I’m autistic and ADHD, which means I tend to fall very deeply into the things that interest me — following threads, details, and unanswered questions until they form a story that feels complete enough to tell.

As much as anything, I want to make sure that these stories are recorded and not forgotten. Manchester Murders is about people. About victims who deserve to be remembered as more than a headline, families whose lives were changed forever, and communities shaped by events that still echo years later. I try to approach each case with care, respect, and honesty, while acknowledging that these are real lives, not just stories.

I’m also a mum, companion to Scooby the Spaniel and a couple of cats, and someone juggling the ordinary chaos of life alongside this podcast. Manchester Murders is made independently in my spare time - I do it all - writing, recording, editing, social media...

I often wonder why the heck I'm doing this, but as long as people want to listen and keep enjoying it, I'll keep going.
